We need your help. Children in the Native community have hope and possibilities with your help. Our program the Wicoie Nandagikendan Early Childhood Urban Immersion Program is the first of its kind in Minnesota and the United States and makes a significant to the children and families in our community.
The results are conclusive that our program helps young children succeed to learn their language and culture and also to be successful and ready to learn. Investing in our immersion program will benefit the children, the families and our community. Although the times are challenging for all Minnesota non-profits and our community we are confident in our ability to continue to grow our language and cultural immersion program because AECP and Wicoie Nandagikendan is more than a non-profit, it is a community-supported movement.
Our work began by a group of mothers and grandmothers, from the Native community, who wanted their children to reclaim their language and culture before it was too late and disappeared with the last elder speakers. Those women and the many parents in our program continue to support the important work of language and culture.
And they support and sacrifice for the program because of the children. If you go to our website you’ll see one of those children, Aalynna, who is four years old, reading her Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you See? in Dakota. It is an example of what the mothers, grandmothers, parents and the community are working towards:
Finally, many other communities come as far as all over the world to try and replicate our successes. Help us continue what was started. Donate today!
